daniel fast - week two

The weekend was a bit harder to get food prepared, so we ended up picking up food from Down to Earth on Saturday night and Thai food Sunday night. Once Monday came around, I was motivated again, so I stocked up on the veggies for the week.

day 8
This recipe was a bit different from last week's recipe, and I went heavier on the chili powder and cayenne - yummy! I'm finally making brown rice tonight (first time since we started the fast). Hopefully some of the minichurch girls will get to try it!

day 9
I'm not too sure about this recipe, so I'm also making
with lots of adjustments: roasting the butternut squash, using Italian style veggie protein sausage, veggie stock, and whole wheat penne. They don't really go together, but it's food, so I'm sure the boys will eat it.

day 10
This site has lots of great recipes (www.ultimatedanielfast.com)! Can't wait to make the cookies - I've really been craving sweets.

day 11
Stir fry veggies (cremini mushrooms, yellow squash, & tomatoes) with wild rice and orzo

days 12-13
hooray for leftovers and whole foods market!
day 14
Used up the other half of the squash and served this dish with grilled veggie protein sausage links, bell peppers and onions. Not bad, but thankful we're starting the home stretch!

fast lessons
I'm reading through Hearing God by Dallas Willard during the fast, and got to share at church on Friday night some of what the Spirit is revealing to me. In seeking God's will, we must first be humble and ask with right motives. When we look at how Jesus lived, He didn't have to go around daily, waiting for God to tell Him what to do. Jesus was already so in tune with the Father that He just walked in His will. Imagine if we could be so close with Him that we would know where to be and what to do throughout the day! But as it says in 1 Corinthians 2:15-16, we have the "mind of Christ", and it is "Christ in us, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27); it is "not I who live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20). So, Christ living in us does give us this access to all we need to live supernaturally.

Willard states that we play an indispensable part in God's world, and it is "His will that we should determine what will happen." In other words we are His hands and feet in bringing His kingdom here in earth. "When we are in union with God, the full purpose and meaning of humanity is realized. We are friends and co-laborers with God" to do His work here on earth. His will for us is not something lofty and far away, but it stands right before us in the choices and decisions we make every day. When we all can walk in this calling, we are building the beautiful redemptive community that he created us to be.
